The atelier service · Couture embellishment for brands Made to order · MOQ one

Embellishment, by the hand.

Hand embroidery, beading, goldwork, crystal, feathers: the layer that separates a garment from a showpiece, produced for emerging houses one piece at a time. You bring a sketch, a photograph, or a render; the atelier brings the pattern, the sample, and the hours. This page explains each technique, what the hours behave like, and how embellished pieces are honestly priced.

The premise

From a picture to a garment.

Most of the designs that reach this atelier are pictures: a sketch, a collage, increasingly an AI render. A picture has no pattern, no stitch map, and no bill of materials, and the distance between the picture and a wearable garment is exactly the work we sell. Development turns each design into a pattern, a fitted toile, and a hand-worked sample of the key motif; the sample you approve becomes the standard the finished piece is judged against. That is how a render becomes a contract, and it is why the finished piece looks like the picture instead of like an apology for it.

Embellished pieces are made one at a time, with no minimum. Emerging houses use this service two ways: a single showpiece for a launch or a shoot, or a debut collection produced as a wave, where materials are sourced once and the bench is scheduled as one block. When a piece sells, it is remade to the client's measurements at the production price alone; development is never paid twice for the same design.

The techniques

Six hands, six clocks.

Every technique spends hours differently. These are the honest behaviors, learned at the bench, so you can read a quote instead of trusting one.

T/01

Tambour beading and sequins.

The couture workhorse: a hooked needle feeding beads and sequins from below the frame. The fastest way to cover surface with shine, which is why full-coverage pieces are tambour pieces. Field coverage moves quickly; the hours hide in density changes and color gradients.

T/02

Thread embroidery.

Satin stitch, long-and-short, silk shading: painting with thread. Flowers, foliage, and scenery live here. A motif the size of your hand is a day or two; a landscape across a coat front is weeks. Gradients and realism are what multiply the clock.

T/03

Goldwork and metalwork.

Couched bullion, purl, and metallic cordwork, the zardozi family of techniques. The slowest clock on the bench: metal does not forgive, and every centimeter is laid and stitched by hand. Nothing else reads as regal; nothing else costs like it either.

T/04

Crystal and stone setting.

Hand-set stones, each glued or sewn and each judged against its neighbors. Hours scale with count, and materials matter as much as labor: crystal grade alone moves the material bill by three to five times between premium glass and Austrian crystal. We quote both when the difference is worth your decision.

T/05

Featherwork.

Coque, goose, and ostrich, dyed to palette and laid in lapped rows on a stable base. Faster per square centimeter than stonework, which makes feathers the most affordable route to full drama. We work only with farmed, dyed plumage; no protected species, ever.

T/06

Dimensional and engineered.

Stumpwork, raised appliqué, cast elements, structured hems that carry weight. The technique family where garments meet engineering, and the one place we always prototype first: a working section is built and approved before the full piece is promised.

The sample you approve becomes the standard the finished piece is judged against.
The pricing logic

How embellished pieces are costed.

An embellished garment is three numbers added honestly: the construction base (couture construction from $3,200), the handwork hours, and the materials. Focused embellishment, one strong motif on clean tailoring, absorbs 60 to 150 hours. Full-surface work runs 200 to 450. A museum-grade showpiece passes 600. We state the hours in the quote, because a price you can audit is the only price worth signing.

Most designs can also be executed at more than one level: full handwork throughout, or a machine-embroidered base with the hands reserved for what they alone can do, faces, gradients, dimension, stone. The second route cuts 40 to 60 percent of the hours, and we will always tell you where the difference shows and where it does not. What we will not do is call one thing the other.

Questions / Before you order

Asked before every order.

How are embellished pieces priced?

Three numbers added honestly: a construction base from $3,200, the handwork hours (60 to 150 for a focused motif, 200 to 450 for full-surface work, 600 and beyond for showpieces), and materials. The hours appear in the quote so the price can be audited.

What is the minimum order for embellished pieces?

One. Embellished and couture pieces are made to order, one at a time. When a design sells, repeats are made to the client's measurements at the production price alone; development is never paid twice.

Can you produce an embellished garment from a picture or an AI render?

Yes. Development turns the picture into a pattern, a fitted toile and a hand-worked sample of the key motif; the approved sample becomes the standard the finished piece is judged against. That is the normal starting point for most designs we receive.

Do you do goldwork and zardozi-style embroidery?

Yes: couched bullion, purl and metallic cordwork. It is the slowest technique on the bench and is quoted with its hours stated, like everything else.
